Since the SCSRC Annual Conference was cancelled due to Hurricane Dorian, several awards were presented during the SCSRC Board of Directors and Members meeting on Dec. 13, 2019.
Scott Lane, RRT, was presented the Palmetto Award for his many years of service to the SCSRC. Scott became a new board member in 1998; since that time, he has served two separate terms as president, several terms as vice president; he also served for 10 years as the disaster preparedness committee chair, during which time he solidified a relationship between the SCSRC and SC DHEC to work with Richard Branson on a Pandemic event/Ventilator Stockpile project. This type of collaboration between a state agency and the SCSRC was the first of its kind in the nation regarding planning for a pandemic event and preparations for a ventilator stockpile.
Dr. Jerry Alewine, Ed.D., RRT, received the President’s Award for his work in developing and launching the BSRT program at Newberry College, which was the first in the state of South Carolina. In May 2019, the first BSRT class graduated; the second class will graduate December 14, 2019.
Wayne Hicks, RRT, received the Garrett Galloway Outpatient Practitioner of the Year award; this was awarded for Wayne’s dedication to his profession and to his patients for many years.
The Midlands Region for the SCSRC received the Region of the Year award for the number of activities that they have held during the past year, including the very successful COPD Update.
