MUSC Lung Transplant Program 1st Anniversary

The MUSC CF Center, MUSC Lung Transplant Program and Donate Life SC are pleased to invite you to a celebration of the MUSC Lung Transplant Program’s First Year and a special showing of the film “The Power of Two” which tells the story of twin sisters, Anabel Stenzel and Isabel Stenzel Byrnes. The film is based on the twin’s 2007 memoirs and chronicles their lives with cystic fibrosis and the their miraculous survival through lung transplantation. It is a moving and inspiring film for anyone interested in learning more about lung transplantation and organ donation. Anabel and Isabel will be in attendance and will answer questions following the film. Please note that this event is only open to those 18 years or older. We look forward to seeing you at the Hippodrome, April 12, 2012.

RSVP soon. We are limiting the attendance to 400.

MUSC RTs participate in Teddy Bear Clinic

MUSC Pediatric Respiratory Therapists Whitney Poole and Kristin Coonrod volunteered at the Pediatric ER Teddy Bear Clinic.  The ER opened it’s doors for a few hours to the community, January 28, 2012. Children brought in their favorite stuffed animal to act as the “patient”. The children had a great time being the parent of their animal and seeing what really goes on in the ER. The patients came into the ER with everything from broken bones, to lacerations, to wheezing. Kristin and Whitney gave breathing treatments to many wheezing stuffed animals and the children had a great time holding the nebulizer and listening to the breath sounds of their patient. It was a very successful event and the staff saw 34 “patients”. Hopefully many children learned that going to the ER isn’t so scary and the staff had a great time doing it!
