PRESS RELEASE
On Friday, February 17, 2012, over 100 respiratory therapists, mainly from the Midlands and Piedmont regions, visited Spartanburg Community College (SCC) in Spartanburg, SC for the 2012 Piedmont Education Forum. Students from the Midlands and Piedmont Technical Colleges were in attendance as well.
The Forum included a broad range of topics and speakers, including Dr. Earl Troup, a pediatric neurosurgeon and Dr. Okan Elidemir, a pediatric pulmonologist, both from the Greenville Hospital System, Dr. Charles Fogarty a pulmonologist and researcher from Spartanburg, and Dr. Hanna Sahhar, a pediatric intensivist from the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. Valerie Johnson, RN of Lifepoint, Inc. discussed the dynamics of organ donation and the day was capped off by Sue Pilbeam, MS, RRT, a therapist and author renowned for her expertise in mechanical ventilation.
The event sponsors were Lifepoint, Inc., Maquet, Masimo, Phillips Healthcare and Spartanburg Pharmaceutical Research. The quality of speakers and number of attendees made for an impressive regional meeting. Special thanks go out to our sponsors, the SCC senior (RT) class, who ensured everyone had enough to eat and drink, and the program committee led by Lisa Conry, MA, RRT, chief coordinator of the event.
